version 1.3.1:

  • Featured:
  • Revised Icons
  • Fixes:  Fixed icons not showing up in Kickoff on openSUSE.
  • New Icons:  Secondlife, Firestorm, Gbrainy, Furius ISO Mount, Faster Than Light, Frozen Synapse, Frogatto, Freeplane, Freeciv, Freemind, Four in a row, Fluid, Flipboard, Flac on, Flare, Five or More, Fitz the fox, Fityk, Filebot, ETR, Enemy Territory, Eradio, Epoptes, DrRacket, Double CMD, Dolphin emulator, Docear, DeSMuME, Desktop environment logos, Deepin music player, Decibel, Darwinia, Dart, CUPS Launcher, Codelite, Civilization V, Trello, BrokenSword, Bluej,, Awesomenauts, Artikulate.

: If the icons don't show up in your menus make sure the .desktop file points to the icon, e.g: Inside Python2.7 .desktop file locate the line Icon= and replace the value with "python" or "python2.7" (without the quotes).
So it looks like this:
  • Icon= python - This looks for the SVG file and uses it.
  • Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/python3.3.xpm - This forces the ugly pixelated python icon.
This is true for those menu entries/applications that don't display the correct icon even though the icon is indeed available in the Nitrux theme. If it still doesn't display the icon please report it as missing, thanks!.

I just downloaded your latest version 1.3.2 but this is still not working.

gtk-update-icon-cache still says; The generated cache was invalid.

So there's still something going on.

Also I downloaded, I guess for a lack of better wording I can think, the regular Compass set, and I
noticed a .directory file in it, I'm assuming which is for Dolphin? If so, might want to remove that,
it should only be present in the KDE set...

The files haven't been removed. That hidden file is created by Dolphin in every folder, it's just metadata of the folder you can delete it.

I was told that Ubuntu asked for icons with spaces in the first versions, something around 12.04 or similar.
Now they should have moved to more standard icon naming conventions.

So you might want to check on them with this, as they might not be valid anymore...

Ok, I'll remove them then.

Ok, and I hope in a future release you'll be sure to remove spaces...

thank you

Hi DevianTN7k1,

I've recently compiled PCSX2 as multilib in Slackware,  and played with this for several days, and then finally realized that if there isn't a valid
'icon-theme.cache, then the menu icons will not appear for PCSX2.

I'd like to leave the iconset as it is, so when you get time, can you please remove the spaces and correct this?

Then I'll download a new updated iconset...

Keep up the great work, really appreciated! :)

thank you...

If the files are no longer used by any app/webapp or anywhere else they can be removed.
DevyGrl Featured By Owner Edited Dec 3, 2014
Actually this is not true, I just found out that some applications that use wxGTK as an example to
load the iconsets will be looking for the icon-theme.cache to load the icons and work properly.

This isn't just about caching icons for speed.

Please fix the iconset so it can create the icon-theme.cache.

I know what the warning is about...

I hope you will please fix this...

thank you

I couldn't find a lot of software that uses wxGTK, can you provide some examples?, I only found FileZilla as the most prominent example and it forces it's own icons (Adwaita or elementary have no effect on it's theming), I'd guess because it uses wxGTK(?).

In any case these are the files that you have to remove:

  • Google
  • Google
  • Google
  • Yahoo
  • Amazon Cloud
  • Angry

They are all links so they don't break anything in particular. Afterwards just run: sudo gtk-update-icon-cache-3.0 -f -t /usr/share/icons/Compass/

An insight about the function of the file: What is icon theme cache on AskUbuntu and  GTK+ 3 Reference Manual: gtk-update-icon-cache

Nice iconset, but you can't create a icon-theme.cache.

>gtk-update-icon-cache /home/foo/.icons/compass-icon-theme-1.3.1
gtk-update-icon-cache: The generated cache was invalid.

Please fix the iconset so it can generate a valid icon-theme.cache.

thank you...
